Trios No 53

From the Trios II collection

(Intro from Trios I)

There is no rational reason to put together a collection on trios.

I certainly had no collection like this in mind all the years I was shooting.

However, as I look through the years of shooting I keep finding trios. At a certain point I began actively looking for them.

Trios are obviously more complex than the earlier collection of Pairs and Couples (#104). There are more possibilities of surprise with trios, the images can offer more visual payoffs, more interrelationships.

I have never said to myself, “I’m going to shoot a trio.” They just happened.

I’m reminded of a wonderful quote by the great Ernst Haas: “We do not take pictures. We are taken by pictures.”

By the way, don’t hold your breath waiting for quartets.
