Burano
My introduction to the Italian island of Burano came about when I complained to a photographer friend, Caesar Gerilometro, about Venice. We were in Venice and I said, "Big deal the canals reflect the buildings but all the buildings are white, ivory, cream colored. There’s no intense color reflections."
He just smiled and said, “This afternoon, we go to the place you are dreaming of.”
“Where’s this?”
“A ferry trip, less than an hour.”
“What is it called?”
“Burano.”
“Where they make the glass?”
“No, that’s Murano.”
“So what’s so great about Burano?”
“You’ll see.”
I spent the afternoon in sheer ecstasy. I love subtle colors. There was nothing subtle here. It was a fantasy of color also set on canals. Plus they had lace, hanging in the streets.
Best afternoon ever!
